Rita V. (Sousa) Walters
LOWELL Rita V. (Sousa) Walters, 88, of Lowell, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown, NH.
A daughter of the late George C. Sousa and the late Antoinette (Espinola) Sousa, she was born on May 6, 1926 in Lowell, where she attended the local schools, graduating from Lowell High School with the Class of 1943.
Rita was a lifelong Lowell resident, until more recently residing in Goffstown, NH. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Lowell; a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, and a lifelong member of the Holy Ghost Society. A great joy in her life was being a foster grandparent with the CTI Program in the Morey School in Lowell. She was employed at U.S. Bunting as a mender, and later for Wang Laboratory before her retirement in 1986. Rita enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Turner and her husband, Peter of Nashua; three granddaughters, Melanie A. Dean and her husband, Richard of Leominster, Tiffany N. Smith and her husband, Steven of Manchester, and Courtney M. Turner of Merrimack; and five great grandchildren, Kaleb M. Vowles, Riah Dean, and Nolan Dean all of Leominster, and Brianna Smith and Connor Smith both of Manchester.
Rita was also the mother of the late Bruce Walters whom passed away in 1969.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS FROM 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30. ON WEDNESDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816. HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL STREET, LOWELL AT 10 A.M.. BURIAL IN ST.
