loving mother and grandmother, 74
LOWELL - Mary D. Silva, age 74, long-time resident of Lowell, died peacefully Wednesday, April 8, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Watertown, Mary graduated from Burlington High School and Middlesex Community College. She served as the executive secretary to several prominent Boston legal and political figures.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Lowell, where she ran the CCD for many years with her late husband, Tony Silva. Mary devoted her time to numerous other community affairs, as well, including the Girl Scouts, the Cub Scouts, the Lowell Council on Aging Chorus, the Lowell Auditorium, the Lowell Historical Society, the Lowell Textile History Museum, St. Francis seminary, the Holy Ghost Society, St. Anthony's choir and Holy Rosary Sodality, the Red Hat Society, and the Dracut and Lowell Senior Centers. She was an avid ballroom dancer who also enjoyed gardening and traveling.
She is survived by her son, Tony Silva and his wife, Almerinda, of Tyngsboro, her daughter, Nancy Naish and her husband, Walter, of Methuen, her grandchildren, Celine and Victor Silva and Eric Naish, and long-time companion Arthur Kostoulakos of Dracut.
PER HER REQUEST, A PRIVATE FUNERAL AND BURIAL AT ST. MARY CEMETERY IN TEWKSBURY IS PLANNED.
