Mary A. ‘Nana’ McCarthy

"Devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother"

LOWELL Mary A. ‘Nana’ (McCarthy) McCarthy, 97, a lifelong Lowell resident, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Blaire House of Tewksbury, peacefully with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of the late Patrick H. McCarthy who died in 1972.

A daughter of the late Edward J. and the late Elizabeth (Morrison) McCarthy, she was born April 21, 1915 in Lowell, and was educated in the local schools.

Mary made her lifelong home in Lowell, and was a communicant of Holy Family Parish in St. Marie's Church. She worked as a housekeeper for St. Therese Parish in Dracut for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo, camping, crocheting and knitting, but her fondest memories were spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Patrick E. McCarthy and his wife, Katherine, of Pelham, NH, Sandra A. Forest of Tewksbury, Paul L. McCarthy and his wife, Charleen, of Dracut, and Dennis W. McCarthy and his wife, Linda, of Tyngsboro; thirteen grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild, her brother, John B. McCarthy and his wife, Anita of Lowell; her sister in law, Carol McCarthy of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother in law to the late Richard H. Forest, sister of the late Dorothy Gibson, the late Helen Caunter, the late Virginia Swan, the late Paul McCarthy, and the late Edward McCarthy.
