Lucy F. Pitta
"Longtime Highlands Resident"

Lucy (Freitas) Pitta, age 93, died Monday, January 9 at the Westford House, located in Westford, MA. She was the widow of Herbert Pitta, Sr. who died in 1965.

She was born in Funchal, Madeira Islands on May 29, 1918, the second of nine children of the late Joao and Luzia Freitas. She emigrated from Madeira Islands to Lowell, MA as a young girl with her parents and her brother, John, and attended Lowell Schools. She and her family settled in the Tremont St. area of Lowell before moving to Charles St. in the South End of Lowell. During her adult life, she and her family resided on Fairfield St., in the Highlands section of Lowell.

In her early working career, she was employed by General Electric as a stitcher working on the manufacture of Army clothing for the war effort and later at the New Market Manufacturing Co. and the New Knit Manufacturing Co. In her later career, she was employed by Honeywell Corp in both Lowell and Brighton from where she retired in 1982. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, embroidery and cooking.

She is survived by her son, Atty. Herbert Pitta, Jr. and his wife, Sarah Duffy of Chelmsford and her grandson, Matthew H. Pitta, news director of WXTK Radio in Hyannis and his wife, Jennifer, along with many nieces and nephews including her dear niece and godchild, Linda Milot of Dracut, MA.

She was the mother-in-law of the late Rita D. Pitta and sister of the late John, Evo, Joseph, Manuel, Maria, Mary, Joseph and Delores Freitas.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 7 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, JAN. 11, AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT THE FUNERAL HOME ON THURSDAY, JAN 12 AT 9 A.M. A PROCESSION WILL FOLLOW FOR HER FUNERAL MASS, WHICH WILL BE OFFERED AT 10 A.M. AT ST. ANTHONY'S CHURCH ON CENTRAL STREET IN LOWELL. FOLLOWING HER FUNERAL MASS, A BURIAL WILL TAKE PLACE AT ST. PATRICK CEMETERY.
