Joseph Leander Shea

LOWELL Joseph Leander Shea, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away after a long illness Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Eleanor (Emond) Shea with whom he celebrated 40 years of marriage this past March.


He was born in Lowell on September 22, 1939 and was a son of the late Joseph L. Shea and the late Anne T. (Handley) Oliver and her husband, the late Richard Oliver. He was raised in Lowell where he attended the area schools, including the Bartlett Middle School. He eventually moved on to higher his education in the field of Real Estate, where we passionately worked though out the field his entire life.


In 1957, Mr. Shea enlisted with the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War earning the rank of Officer until his honorable discharge.


He resided in Belvidere and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a member of the NRA, the Vesper Country Club and Longmeadow Golf Club. Joseph was an avid golfer and loved spending time either hunting or fishing. He was an animal lover and is survived his his beloved ‘Bird’.


In addition to his wife, Eleanor, he is survived by his son, Shawn Shea of Kingston, NH; and his daughter, Erin O. Shea of Kittery, ME. He is also survived by his siblings, Phil Shea of Lowell, Ronald Shea of California, and Nancy Flanagan of Salem, NH; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews (many of which are serving our Country within the United States Armed Forces).
Joseph was also the brother of the late Ralph Shea.

ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6, YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 3 - 7 P.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.

ON WEDNESDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT THE FUNERAL HOME AT 10 A.M. FOLLOWED BY HIS FUNERAL MASS AT IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 144 EAST MERRIMACK STREET, LOWELL AT 11 A.M.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIAL DONATIONS IN HIS NAME MAY BE MADE TO: NEW ENGLAND HOSPICE, 190 OLD DERBY STREET, SUITE 304, HINGHAM, MA 02043.
