Joao DaSilva
LOWELL Joao DaSilva, 93, of Lowell, died Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Radius Northwood Health Center after a brief illness. Since their marriage in 1943, he was the beloved husband to Evangelina (Quadros) DaSilva.
A son of the late Manuel and the late Ana A. DaSilva, he was born November 12,1921, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and was raised and educated in that area. He worked on his family's farm in Graciosa until 1966 when he moved with his family to the United States, settling in Lowell's Back Central Street Neighborhood.
Joao was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, and cherished time spent with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and playing cards as well as making his own wine.
He worked for Commodore Foods before becoming affiliated with the Belmont Country Club as a groundskeeper for fifteen years before his retirement.
In addition to his beloved Evangelina, he is survived by his children, Maria Cunha of Lowell, Zulmira Betencor and her husband, Oriolando, of San Jose, CA, Manuel Silva and his wife, Filomena, of Lowell, Durvalina Silva and her husband, Fernando, of Lowell, Agostinho Silva and his wife, Lily,of Lowell, Dulcelina Silva and her husband, Mike, of Lowell, Ludovina Platt and her husband, Bob, of Lowell, Daniel Silva and his wife, Aida, of Lowell, and Albino Silva of Lowell; his twenty five grandchildren; his twenty five great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was also the father of the late Herondinha Lobao and the late Ludovina Silva and brother of the late Manuel DaSilva, the late Mateus DaSilva, the late Ermelinda DaSilva and the late Virginia DaSilva and was also the brother in law of the late Jose and the late Manuel Jose.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON MONDAY, APRIL 20. ON TUESDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
