Virginio P. Tavares

LOWELL Virginio P. Tavares, 86, of Lowell, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020, at Wingate at Belvidere with his loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Maria Angelina (Leite) Tavares, with whom he celebrated Fifty Three years of Marriage this year.

A son of the late Eugenio Tavares Brum and the late Angelina T. (Perreira) Brum, he was born October 9, 1933, in Furnas, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, and was raised and educated in that area, marrying his beloved Maria in1967. In 1968, they came to the United States with his parents so they could have a better life and more opportunity. He made his home in Lowell, where he resided until his death.

Virginio was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and was well known throughout the City for riding his bicycle wherever he needed to go. He enjoyed scratch tickets, but his pride and joy was his family and he loved to spend time with them at every opportunity. He also enjoyed time spent with friends.
He worked at Old Mother Hubbard for many years before his retirement and also worked at Friend’s Pizza for several years.

His survivors include his children, Francisco Tavares, Isabel Tavares, Lucia Tavares, Paul Tavares, Michael Tavares, Robert Tavares, Fernanda Tavares, and Bobby Tavares; as well as their spouses or partners; his sixteen grandchildren; his ten great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Francisco Brum, Maria Deus Medeiros, Maria Lourdes Tavares, and Trindade Tavares; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and friends.

He was also predeceased by his siblings, Angelina Pacheco, Guilhermina Silva, Ofelia Horta, Eugenia Brum Diaz, Manuel Brum, Jose Brum, Luis Brum, Maria Brum and Espirito Santo Pimental

WHILE FOLLOWING SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES AND WEARING A MASK, YOU ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND HIS CALLING HOURS ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2020 FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. DUE TO COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS, ON THURSDAY, HIS FUNERAL MASS AND BURIAL WILL TAKE PLACE PRIVATELY.
