Valquirio D. ‘Val’ Dias
DRACUT Valquirio D. ‘Val’ Dias, 70, , of Dracut, died unexpectedly, Friday, November 27, 2009, at Saints Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Theresa S. (DaCosta) Dias, with whom he celebrated their Forty Fourth Wedding Anniversary this past September.
A son of the late Hipolito D. Dias and the late Rosa (Silva) Dias, he was born July 11, 1939, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and was educated in that area. In 1961, he moved to the United States settling in the Lowell Back Central Street area, moving to Dracut in 1989.
A communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, he was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society and the Holy Trinity. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed tending to his animals and his garden, and took great pride in landscaping his yard.
Mr. Dias worked for over thirty years with Brox Industries/Pavex and after his retirement, worked part time as a groundskeeper for Hickory Hill Golf Course in Methuen.
In addition to his wife, Theresa, he is survived by his son, Anthony P. Dias and his wife, Patricia, of Lowell; his two daughters, Lisa A. Quadros and her husband, David, of Hudson, NH, and Susan M. Silva and her husband, Edgar, of Dracut; seven grandchildren, Anthony P. Dias Jr. and Matthew V. Dias both of Lowell, Nicole M. Quadros and Alex D. Quadros of Hudson, NH, and Brittany M Silva, Rachel R. Silva, and Kyle E. Silva of Dracut; his sisters, Mary Sousa of Lowell and Lina Melo and her husband, Andre, of Graciosa; his sisters in law, Dorothy Dias of Lowell and Cecilia Dias of Dracut; a brother in law, Anthony P. DaCosta and his wife, Mary Gail, of Hudson, NH; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also a brother of the late Manuel Dias, the late Jose Dias, and the late Joao Dias, and brother in law of the late Antonio DeSousa and the late Rosa Dias.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 2 UNTIL 7 P.M. ON SUNDAY, NOV. 29. ON MONDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
