Richard M. Ozella, Sr.

DRACUT Richard M. Ozella, Sr., 85, of Dracut, died unexpectedly, Monday, January 12, 2015. He was the beloved widower of the late Teresa Ann (DeMichelis) Ozella who passed away in 2012.

A son of the late Michael Ozella and the late Ellen (Ryder)(Ozella) Frangente, he was born July 29, 1929, in Sanford, Maine, and was raised and educated in the Lowell Schools, graduating from Lowell High School.

Mr. Ozella servered with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1950, and then honorably served with the United States Air Force until 1954 during the Korean Conflict earning the United Nations Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Occupation Medal of Japan, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He made his home in Lowell and was a member of the former Sacred Heart Parish before making his home in Dracut. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Ozella worked as a painter for the painters union for several years before opening his own drywall business which he operated until his retirement.

He is survived by his children, Richard M. Ozella, Jr. of Merrimack, NH, Jeffrey S. Ozella and his wife, Donna, of Pelham, NH, Glenn P. Ozella of Lowell, and Bruce T. Ozella and his wife, Debra, of Lowell; his grandchildren, Matthew Ozella and his wife, Jenni, Jamison Ozella, Cody Ozella, Brenden Ozella, Cassandra Rush and her husband, Jim, Nicole Kukulski, Bobby Kukulski, and Ashley Azevedo; his seven great grandchildren; his sisters, Theresa Duschesne and her husband, Edmond, Nancy Gilbert and her husband, Robert, Mary Daigle, Jean Trask, and Anna Cullen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the father in law of the late Nancy Ozella.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 10 UNTIL 12 NOON ON FRIDAY MORNING, JANUARY 16, AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 12 NOON AT THE FUNERAL HOME. BURIAL IN ST. PATRICK CEMETERY. MEMORIALS IN HIS NAME TO DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS ASSOC., 180 POND ST., TEWKSBURY, MA 01876.
