Rev. Antonio Leonardo Andrade


HUDSON MA Rev. Antonio Leonardo Andrade, 71, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at his home. He was a son of the late Antonio S. and the late Maria (Macedo) Andrade.
Born November 6, 1938, in Flamengos, Faial, Azores, Portugal, he moved to Terceira when he was ten years old to study in the Seminary of Angra do Heroismo. In 1974, he came to the United States, settling in Lowell.
Fr. Andrade was ordained as a catholic priest April 28, 1963 at The Cathedral of The Saviour in Angra, Terceira, Azores by The Most Reverend Manuel Afonso Carvalho. In 1975 he was assigned as an Associate Pastor at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton and was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Boston on October 24, 1980. He also served as an Associate Pastor at St. Anthony's Church in Lowell and as an Assistant Chaplain at Metropolitan State Hospital in Waltham throughout the 1980's. In 1989 he was assigned to St. Gregory Church in Dorchester where he was responsible for the Chronic Care Hospital in Mattapan and the nursing homes of the parish. In 1996 he was assigned to St. Michael Church in Hudson where he served as a Parochial Vicar and became a Senior Priest on January 26, 2006.
Fr. Andrade had a deep devotion to the Catholic Church and its Religion, and as a priest, was dedicated to his relationships with parishioners that were formed over his many years of ministry. His lifelong devotion to prayer included everyone he had the occasion to help throughout the years. In addition, he cherished time spent with family. His hobbies included flower and plant gardening, reading books and newspapers and keeping up with current events as well as watching sports and traveling.
He is survived by his sisters, Angela A. Brum of Bristol, RI, and Maria Goretti Barcelos and her husband,Rafael, of Terceira, Azores; his nieces, Sandra E. Brum of Portsmough, RI, and Lara Barcelos of Terceira, Azores; his nephew, Michael A. Brum of Bristol, RI; his great nephew, Dante Brum; and his great niece, Brittney Brum.
He was also a brother of the late twin sisters Estela and Alice Andrade.

MICHAEL’S CHURCH, 21 MANNING ST., HUDSON, MA FROM 9 UNTIL 11 A.M. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BEGIN AT 11 A.M. AT ST. MICHAEL’S CHURCH. BURIAL IN ST. PATRICK CEMETERY, LOWELL.
