Maria C. Quadros
LOWELL Maria C. (Faustino) Quadros, 68, of Lowell, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Northwood Nursing Home. She was the widow of the late Manuel B. Quadros who died Feb. 6, 2008.
Born April 20, 1939, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Jose Faustino and the late Maria (Conceicao) Vasconcelos and was educated in her local town within Graciosa. During her time, a 4th grade education was comparable to a High School diploma in the US. She excelled with her studies and enjoyed Portuguese literature and the traditional Portuguese customs of tending to livestock, cooking, baking Portuguese sweet bread, sweet rice, and flos (Portuguese fried dough). Subsequently, she immigrated to the United States in 1973 with her husband and two young children, settling in Lowell.
Maria loved to sew and crochet; she made many throw blankets for her grandchildren whom she adored very much. One of her favorite things was making wine with her husband and grandchildren, who were her world. Tending to her rose garden was a favorite past-time for her. Additionally, she loved her two cats whom she enjoyed spending her time with as she handled her daily chores.
During the time she was sick, her husband would constantly try to get her to sing songs from the "good old days", she sometimes responded and sang filling her husband and children's hearts with happiness and joy for the precious moments with her. At times she prayed when asked to. Later in her illness, any glimmer of her sweet smile and voice was so treasured by her loving husband, who visited her daily, and her children, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Joao "Jim" Quadros and girlfriend Anabela DaCosta of Lowell, and her daughter, Maria Quadros-Stevens, and her husband, Ricky Stevens, of Derry, NH, four Grandchildren; Nadine, Justin, and Monique Quadros, and Cameron Brum; her brothers Manuel Vasconcelos and his wife, Maria, of Lowell, Josefo Vasconcelos and his wife, Lucia, of Peabody, and Joao Bettencourt and his wife, Maria, of Peabody; her brothers in law, Celerino and his wife, Grace Quadros, of Tewksbury, and Dionisio Quadros of Lowell, a sister in law, Maria and her husband, Elpidio Teles, of Dracut; and many nieces, nephews. She was also the sister of the late Etelvina Machado who died in 1990.
