Arthur Leo O’Neill
LOWELL Arthur L. O’Neill, 89, of Dracut, died May 14, 2008 at Willow Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Helen M. (Fitzpatrick) O’Neill who died in 1996.
A son of the late Arthur L. O’Neill and the late Margaret (Davlin) O’Neill, he was born Sept. 8, 1918, in Lowell, and was educated in the local schools, graduating from Lowell High School.
Mr. O’Neill served with the United States Army during World War II, with the 1st armored division in the African and Italian campaigns, receiving several decorations including five Bronze Stars, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Purple Heart.
For the past fifty eight years, he made his home in Dracut, and was a member of the former St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church. More recently he was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church. When he wasn’t enjoying spending time with his family or working on carpentry projects, Arthur was an avid boxing fan, especially of the Golden Gloves. He also was a dedicated fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He is survived by three children, Diane K. Skaff and her husband, Michael, of Nashua, Gail H. Witts and her husband, Walter, of Canterbury, NH, and Arthur P. O’Neill of Hesperia, CA; three granddaughtrers, Kerry-Ann Powers of Nashua, Kaitlyn Witts of Pembroke, NH, and Ashley O’Neill of Hesperia, CA; a great grandson, Max Bradley Hoover of Pembroke, NH; a sister, Eileen Nadeau of Lowell; a brother in law, Frank Fitzpatrick of Lowell, and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Sister Mary Dolores(O’Neill).
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 2 UNTIL 6 P.M. ON SUNDAY MAY 18, 2008. ON MONDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. MICHAEL’S CHURCH AT 10 A.M.. BURIAL IN LOWELL CEMETERY.
