Mary Esther (Braga) Varoski


LOWELL Mary Esther (Braga) Varoski, 92, of Lowell, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Palm Center Nursing Home in Chelmsford. She was the wife of the late John A. Varoksi whom passed away April 10, 1994 after 53 years of marriage.

Born March 25, 1921, in Lowell, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and the late Mary (Picanso) Braga and attended the area schools.

She resided in Belvidere and was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Andover. She was employed in retail for many years until her retirement. After retirement she volunteered for the Ladies of Saint John's (Pink Ladies), and she was a foster grandparent for Community Teamwork at the Reilly School, where she received the Presidents Award for her devoted volunteer service. She was very active in St. Joseph's Lithuanian Church and St. Anthony's Ladies Sodality. Mary was also very active in the Seton Guild and the League of Catholic Women. In the early stages of the Lowell Folk Festival, Mary helped prepare food for the Portuguese and Lithuanian booths. Most recently she volunteered with hospitality and parish mailings at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Andover, MA.

Mary enjoyed cooking for her family, and spending many summers with her family on Lake Winnisquam in Belmont, NH.
She is survived by a son, John Varoski Jr. and his wife, Eileen of Belmont, NH and Naples Florida; a daughter, Joan M. Varoski of Lowell, with whom she lived with; her two grandchildren, Stacy A. Sorrell of Laconia, and David J. Varoski of Wauwatosa, WI; her great grandchildren, Brendan, Alexandra, and Michaela Sorrell and Sophia Downes of Laconia, and Ryan and Katie Varoski of Wauwatosa, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Theresa Emond and the late James Braga.

Her family would like to thank the devoted and caring staff of Palm Center Nursing Home.
