Mary 'Theresa' Coates

LOWELL Mary 'Theresa' (Pilato) Coates, 75, of Lowell, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at her residence. She was the widow of the late Carl T. Coates who passed away February 13, 1994 after thirty years of marriage.

Born July 11, 1936, in Lowell, she was a daughter of the late Frederick J. Sr. and the late Mary H. (Decourcey) Pilato, and was raised in the South End of Lowell and was educated in the Lowell School System.

She made her lifelong home in Lowell, and lived in the Centralville Section of the City before residing on Merrimack Street.
Theresa worked for McCarthy Laundry on Lawrence Street for many years, and enjoyed making crossword puzzles, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, and going to Eagle Wing Bingo with her children. She also enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren, playing cards with her family, and chatting nightly with her daughter Terry.

A very religious person, she loved St. Jude, and was a member of the former St. Peter’s Parish and more recently was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Theresa M. Coates and her soulmate, Walter Hildreth, of Tyngsboro, and Linda Vecchi and her husband, Thomas, of Milford, NH; her son, Carl E. Coates of Lowell; her grandchildren, Keith, John, Phillip, Jeffrey, Sherry, Walter, Tanya, Jennifer, Ryan, Jason, and Ellen; her eight great grandchildren, including Sharlisa, Luis Jr., and Patron, and her expectant great grandchild due this coming September; her brothers, Frederick Pilato Jr. of Greensboro, NC, Joseph Pilato of Lowell, and Paul Pilato and his soulmate, Delores McGillicuddy; her sister, Gail Leedberg and her husband, Melvin Sr., of South Berwick, ME; and her friend, Barbara Kushner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Irene May Gowett and the late Donna Marie Pilato.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS 2 UNTIL 6 P.M. ON SUNDAY, FEB 12. ON MONDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 11 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816.
