Maria ’Natalia’ Veiga

LOWELL         Maria ‘Natalia’ (Veiga) Veiga, 69, of Lowell, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Lowell General Hospital after a two year battle with mesothelioma, with her loving family at her side. She was the beloved wife of Mario Veiga with whom she would have celebrated their Forty Seventh Wedding Anniversary this coming February.

A daughter of the late Eliseu Veiga and the late Basilicia (Torres) Veiga, she was born December 25, 1947, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, educated in that area, and came to the United States in 1962, settling in Lowell. In 1970, she returned to Graciosa, to marry the love of her life, Mario. They married and returned to the United States, in 1971, making their family home in Lowell.

In 1979, along with her husband, she opened their family business together which evolved into Mario’s Furniture on Gorham Street in Lowell. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and a member of the Holy Ghost Society and the Holy Trinity Society.
Natalia loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, especially traveling back to her native island of Graciosa.

Besides her beloved husband, Mario, she is survived by her cherished daughters, Debbie Fernandes and her husband, Kevin, of Lowell, and Nancy Mattheos and her husband, John, of Lowell; her treasured grandchildren, Gabriela Mattheos and Francisco Fernandes both of Lowell; her cousins, Leontina Silva of Tewksbury, Quelminda Mendonsa of Lowell and Manuel Jorge and Manuela Veiga, of Tyngsboro and several nieces and nephews. Although she was an only child she was blessed with her "brothers and sisters", her husbands siblings, Duarte and Leolinda Veiga of Lowell, Alcinda and Clemente Custodio of Lowell, Joao Manuel and Audrey Veiga of Lowell, Oriolando and Saozinha Veiga of Hudson, NH.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS 3 UNTIL 7 P.M. ON SUNDAY AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.

ON MONDAY, PLEASE MEET THE FAMILY DIRECTLY AT CHURCH FOR HER FUNERAL MASS WHICH WILL BE OFFERED AT 9:30 A.M. AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL ST., LOWELL.

BURIAL IN ST. PATRICK CEMETERY.
