Maria J. Simas
LOWELL Maria J. Simas, 63, of Lowell, died Monday, February 16, 2009, after a long illness with her family by her side at her home. She was the wife of Antonio P. Simas, with whom she celebrated their twenty seventh wedding anniversary this past September.
A daughter of the late Joao Veira Gomes and the late Maria Veira Gomes, she was born June 21, 1945, in Terceira, Azores, Portugal in the town of Paria da Vitoria, and was educated in Terceira. She came to the United States in 1991, settling in Hudson, Massachusetts, and for the past twelve years, made her home in Lowell.
Maria was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the Blues Club where her husband, Antonio, is a member, and crocheting.
In addition to her husband, Antonio, she is survived by her son, Antonio Veira Gomes Simas of Lowell; and her close friend, Maria Sousa of Lowell.
