Maria G. Sousa

LOWELL Maria G. (Sousa) Sousa, 84, of Lowell, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at Radius Northwood Health Care Center after a long illness. She was the widow of the late Luis A. Sousa who died in 2006.
A daughter of the late Augusto C. daSilva and the late Ernestina de Trindade (Sousa) Silva, she was born August 18, 1926, in Graciosa, Acores, Portugal, and educated and raised in that area.

Maria made her home in the Pawtucketville Section of the City, and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. She had worked for Paris Shoe when she first came to the United States, and then worked at Grace Shoe. Later she worked for Quality Tronics until her retirement.

She is survived by her daughters, Nizalda F. Melo of Brampton City, Ontario, Canada, Adilia M. Silva of Lowell, and Dionisia M. Moreira and her husband, Jack, of Caledon, Ontario, Canada; a sister Maria and her husband Dionisio Reis of Lowell, seven grandchildren, Luis Melo and his wife, Theresa, of Caledon, Ontario and Heliodoro and his wife Dina Melo, of Orangeville, Ontario, Gary Melo and his wife, Lisa, of Brampton, Ontario, Wesley Silva and his wife, Lisa, of Nashua, NH and Andy Silva and his girlfriend, Amy Brady, of Derry, NH, Nancy Papandrea and her husband, Mario, and Tracy Moreira and her boyfriend, James Lucas, all of Caledon, Ontario; seven great grandchildren, Jacob Melo, Lucas Melo, Ayden Melo, Mateo Melo, Dante Melo, Olivia Melo, and Emerson Papandrea, all of Caledon, and Brampton Ontario. Several nieces and nephews throughout United States and The Azores.

She was also the mother in law of the late Manuel Melo and the late Eduardo Silva, and a sister of the late Isidro Silva.
