She was the wife of Armando R. Fernandes, with whom she celebrated their Thirty Second Wedding Anniversary last year.

Known by her family and friends as a hard worker, Maria enjoyed taking care of her family most of all and spending time with them. She also enjoyed baking, knitting, and crocheting. In addition to her husband, Armando, she is survived by her son, Luis C. Fernandes and his fiancee, Christina Vasconcelos of Lowell; her sister, Herondina Pereira and her husband, Antonio, of Pelham, NH; and several nieces and nephews throughout the Lowell area and Terceira.
