Maria B. Lopes
Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Sister
LOWELL Maria B. ‘Mariazinha’ (Avila) Lopes, 85, of Lowell, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Lowell General Hospital after a long battle with diabetes, with her family by her side. She was the wife of Jeronimo A. Lopes, with whom she celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary this past May.
A daughter of the late Jose Cardoso Avila and the late Candida Avila, she was born February 5, 1927, in Lajes, Terceira, Azores, Portugal, and grew up and was educated in Terceira. In her younger days in Terceira, she worked in embroidery. She married Jeronimo and with him later moved to the United States to be closer to her family. She settled in Lowell, and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church,
She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, cooking, and reading, as well as spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was also a member of the Portuguese Senior Center.
In addition to her husband, Jeronimo, she is survived by her son, Francisco "Frank" Lopes and his wife, Dolores, of Lowell; her grandchildren, Vanessa Gilberti and her husband, Anthony, of Lowell, Matthew Lopes and his wife, Jennifer, of Lowell, and Christopher Lopes of Lowell;her great grandson, Austin Lopes of Lowell; her sister, Vielmina Feliz of Mississauga, Toronto, Canada; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was also a sister of the late Inez Brandao.

HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL ST., LOWELL AT 10 A.M. BURIAL IN ST. MARY CEMETERY.
