Manuel F. Vasconcelos

LOWELL Manuel F. Vasconcelos, 78, of Lowell, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Bettencourt) Vasconcelos with whom they would have celebrated their Fifty Fourth Wedding Anniversary this coming April 3.

Born September 1, 1940, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was a son of the late Jose Faustino and the late Maria (Conceicao) Vasconcelos, and grew up and was educated in Graciosa. While residing in Graciosa, he was a member of the Marching Band in Graciosa and he served with the Portuguese Army. In 1984, he moved with his family to the United States making his home in Lowell.

Manuel was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and he enjoyed tending to his garden, playing guitar, and enjoyed soccer, especially supporting his favorite team, Benfica.

He worked for Altotronics in Burlington for five years before working as a packer for Old Mother Hubbard for seventeen years before his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by his children, Noelia Teves and her husband, Antonio, of Lowell, and Maria I. DeFreitas and her husband, Antonio, of Lowell, Manuel F. Vasconcelos Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Dracut, and Florentina "Tina" Sousa and her husband, Luis, of Chelmsford; his grandchildren, Melanie Teves, Ashley and Eric DeFreitas, Miguel and Julia Vasconcelos, and Kevin Sousa; his brothers, Josefo Vasconcelos and his wife, Lucia, of Lowell, and Joao Bettencourt and his wife, Maria, of Peabody; his brother in law, Manuel Machado of Peabody; as well as several nephews, nieces, and extended family and friends

He was also the brother of the late Etelvina Machado and Maria C. Quadros and her husband, Manuel.

Manuel’s family would like to thank Home Health VNA for their dedication and caring while taking care of him.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON THURSDAY. ON FRIDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL STREET, LOWELL AT 10 A.M.. BURIAL IN ST.PATRICK CEMETERY.
