Manuel C. "Evaristo" Picanco

"Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather"

Manuel C. "Evaristo" Picanco, 89, of Lowell passed away peacefully on October 11 at Wingate at Belvidere surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Luzia (Guadeloupe) Picanco with whom he would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this December.

Born on June 6, 1924, and raised in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he lived there for a time where he worked with his family. He also relocated to Johannesburg, South Africa for 10 years before he came to the United States in November of 1977, settling in Lowell. He was the son of the late Evaristo C. and Maria (Candida) Picanco.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and was also a member of the Blues Club and the Reds Club. He enjoyed gardening, making wine, walking, music, and espresso coffee, he was very active.

In addition to his work in Graciosa and Johannesburg, he also worked for Commodore Foods, Paris Shoe and retired from Jo-Ann Fabrics after 10 years.

Besides his wife, Luzia, he is also survived by 3 daughters, Agueda L. Rombeiro and her husband, Heli, of Dracut, Filomena M. Dias and her husband, Daniel, of Lowell, and Maria Gorreti Picanco of Lowell, he is also survived by his two sisters, Ariolinda and Lucia, both of Graciosa, Azores, his grandchildren, Edward Manuel Rombeiro of Dracut, Mark P. Rombeiro and his wife, Amy, of Merrimack, NH, Jimmy S. Dias of Lowell and Jessica S. Dias of Lowell, his great grandchildren, Marcus J. Rombeiro, Alexis S. Rombeiro and Sophie M. Rombeiro all of Merrimack, NH and Damien S. and Haley S. Bristow both of Lowell and many cousins and several nieces and nephews.

YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND HIS VISITATION ON WEDNESDAY FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL, MA 01852. HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN THURSDAY, FROM THE FUNERAL HOME AT 9 A.M. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY'S CHURCH IN LOWELL AT 10 A.M. A PROCESSION WILL FOLLOW FOR BURIAL AT ST. MARY CEMETERY IN TEWKSBURY.
