Lina G. (Lima) Avila

LOWELL        Lina G. (Lima) Avila, 83, of Lowell, died after a brief illness Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Radius Northwood Healthcare Center in Lowell. She was the widow of Pedro Avila who passed away in 1987.

     Born July 3, 1925, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal she was a daughter of the late Joao Ramos, and the late Clotilde (Lima) Ramos, she was educated in Graciosa.

     Mrs. Avila came to the United States in 1975, settling in Lowell’s Back Central Street Neighborhood.

     She was a devoted communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and was a member of The Holy Ghost Society. She was employed at Carol Shoe and Highland Towel but will be most fondly remembered as helping to raise her large family. She enjoyed crocheting, but especially she cherished time spent with her loving family.

     She is survived by Adelaide Cardoso and her husband, Manuel, of Lowell and their daughter, Stephanie Cardoso, who was like a granddaughter to Lina. She is also survived by George and Jose Ramos both of Lowell, three sisters; Antonieta Bettencourt and her husband, Joao, of Lowell, Mariazinha Espinola and her husband, Alvereno, of Graciosa and Alice Ramos of New Jersey, five brothers; Antonio Ramos and his wife, Maria, of Lowell, Jose Ramos and his wife, Maria, of Lowell, Joao Ramos and his wife, Aldora, of Cambridge, Manuel Gil of Lowell and George Lima of Florida, two sisters in law, Luzia Lima of New Hampshire, and Adelaide Avila of Terceira Azores, and many godchildren, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

    She was also the sister of the late Gabriel Lima and the sister in law of the late Maria Gil.

 

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8.

ON THURSDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. FROM THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. 

HER LIBERA PRAYERS WILL BE OFFERED AT SAINT ANTHONY'S CHURCH AT 10 A.M.
