Liduina Espinola

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt

LOWELL Liduina Espinola, 84, of Lowell, died after a long illness Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Radius Northwood Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Laurino Espinola who passed away in September after 62 years of marriage.

Liduina was born April 6, 1927, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and was a daughter of the late Francisco Augusto Bettencourt, and the late Rosa Correia (da Silva) Bettencourt. She grew up and was educated in Graciosa before moving to the United States.

She resided in Lowell, was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of the Holy Ghost Society. In her early days, Liduina was employed as a seamstress in Graciosa, making many wedding gowns and suits. After moving to the United States she was employed as an assembler for Carrie Shoe and later for Teradyne Electronics until her retirement. She enjoyed baking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by a son, Joel S. Espinola and his wife, Maristela of Lowell; two grandchildren, Jonathan Espinola and Deidra Deocleciano both of Lowell; one great grandson; her brothers and sisters, Ester Correia Bettencourt of Lowell, Maria Picanco of Canada, Gestrudes Correia Bettencourt of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, Francisco Correia Bettencourt of Terceira, Azores, Portugal, Jose Correia Bettencourt of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Manuel Correia Reis and the late Juvenal Correia Bettencourt.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS FROM 5 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9. ON SATURDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 12 NOON AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
