Juvenal C. Silva


LOWELL         Juvenal C. 'Juvi' Silva, 89, of Lowell, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Northwood Health Care Center peacefully with his daughter by his side. He was the beloved husband to the late Maria Lourdes Silva, who died in December of 2016.

A son of the late Manuel Dasilva and the late Maximiliana E. DaSilva, he was born January 5, 1928, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and was raised and educated in that area. He worked as a farmer in Portugal until 1966 when he moved to the United States with his family. He settled in Chelmsford before residing in Lowell’s Back Central Neighborhood.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and a member of the Holy Ghost Society. Juvenal loved his family and enjoyed time spent with his grand children and great grandchildren. He spent spare time gardening and tending to his grape vine. He worked as a machine operator for Vertpyle in Leominster for many years before his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter, Maria Beatriz Tavares of Lowell; his grandchildren, Gina DeMelo and her husband, Vasco, of Methuen, Tina Cunha and her husband, Jerry, of Dracut, and Anita Tavares and her partner, Sidonio Iria of Lowell; his great grandchildren, Claudia DeMelo, Leah DeMelo, Kendra DeMelo, Vania DeMelo, Sebastian Cunha and Mateo Cunha; his sister Maria Emilia Benjamim of Graciosa; his sisters in law Maria Luisa Mendonca of Lowell, and Lindoura Freitas of Lowell, his brother in law, Manuel C. Silva of Lowell; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his brothers John M. Silva, Manuel M. Silva, and Jose C. DaSilva.

The family would like to thank the staff at Northwood Health Care Center for the kind and compassionate care bestowed upon Juvenal during his stay at the nursing home.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 2 UNTIL 6 P.M. ON SUNDAY.

ON MONDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 10 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL ST, LOWELL, AT 11 A.M..

BURIAL IN ST. PATRICK CEMETERY.
