Julia R. Pereira
"Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother"

LOWELL Julia R. (Dias) Pereira, 94, of Lowell, died peacefully, after a long illness, with her family by her side on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Blair House of Tewksbury. She was the beloved wife of Jose Pereira, with whom she celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary last Thursday, June 5.
One of ten children of the late Jose R. and the late Mariana Dias, she was born January 20, 1920, in Pico, Azores, Portugal, and was raised and educated in that area. In 1977, she moved to the United States with her husband, settling in Lowell upon joining her daughter, Maria Correia and her husband, Manuel Correia.
A communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, she loved spending time with her family. In addition, she enjoyed knitting and time spent at the Portuguese Senior Center. A devoted catholic, she attended weekly Mass at St. Anthony’s Church, and prayed the rosary at her home, daily. She was also a member of The Holy Ghost Society and Irmandade do Rosario. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially, Soeka, and also playing dominoes. She also loved tending to her hydrangeas. She had worked at Paris Shoe before working as an assembler for Wang Laboratories for more than nine years.
Besides her loving husband, Jose, she is survived by her children, Maria J. Porto and her husband, Joao, of Lowell, Jose M. Pereira of Canada, Maria R. Correia and her husband, Manuel, of Tewksbury, and Bertina Matos and her husband, Manuel, of Canada; her ten grandchildren, John Porto of Pelham, NH, Victor Porto of Salem, NH, Jorge Porto of West Roxbury, Brian Correia of Windham, NH, Erica Silva of Lowell, and Jerry Pereira, Sandy Pereira, Steven Matos, Marlene Jones and Kevin Matos all of Canada; her ten great grandchildren, with an additional great grandson on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Sidonia of Canada; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
