Julia Marie Morrison

LOWELL       Julia Marie (Cortez) Morrison, 82, of Lowell, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Saints Medical Center, after a long term illness.   She was the beloved widow of the late Richard L. Morrison who died November 4, 1994, after thirty years of marriage, and the dear friendship of Carl McAffee who passed away in 2014.

     A daughter of the late Frank and the late Curina (Mello) Cortez, she was born October 12, 1935, in Lowell, and was raised on North Street and educated in the City schools, graduating from Lowell High School, Class of 1953.

     Julia made her home on Saratoga Street before residing in South Lowell.  She was a member of Holy Family Parish at St. Marie’s Church.   She loved camping, she started camping with her husband and family years ago, and she continued to enjoy camping through her life. Most recently, she had a trailer at Yankee Land Campground in Kennebunk, Maine where she enjoyed many long term friendships. Her favorite place to be was at the beach on a summer day, she also loved Bingo, dancing and feeding birds, seagulls, chipmunks or anything with fur or feathers.  In addition, she was a member of the choir at Holy Family Parish, and at the Lowell Senior Center.

     Mrs. Morrison had worked at Raytheon Corporation for many years before her retirement, and had previously worked for Consolidated Electronics.  

     Her survivors include her son, Bruce R. Morrison of Amherst, NH; her daughter, Lisa Baltazar and her husband, David, of Lowell; her grandchildren, Aileen Achfike and her husband, Anuar, Douglas, Keri, and Lance; her great grand son, Amir and Alia Achfike; her brothers, Ludgerio Cortez of Chelmsford, and John Cortez and his wife, Florence, of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.

     She was also a sister of the late Catherine Silva, Margaret Silva, Anthony Cortez, Thelma Hodgson, Eva Abdella, Frank Cortez, Mary Ringwood, Ruth Machado, and Dorothy Cortez.

           YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON MONDAY.  

ON TUESDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 10 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. 

HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED TUESDAY AT HOLY FAMILY PARISH AT ST. MARIE’S CHURCH, 30 GRAFTON STREET, LOWELL AT 11 A.M..  BURIAL IN LOWELL CEMETERY.
