John L. ‘Sully’ Sullivan
LOWELL John L. ‘Sully’ Sullivan, 87, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. For more than thirty five years, he was the beloved companion and best friend of Pauline Turcotte.
A son of the late John J. Sullivan and the late Delia (Ryan) Sullivan, he was born August 20, 1926, in Lowell, and educated in the local schools, attending St. Peter’s Grammar School.
In 1946, Mr. Sullivan entered the United States Military, serving with the Army Air Corp. until his honorable discharge. He returned to Lowell and worked in the area Mills before becoming affiliated with Tewksbury State Hospital where he worked for twenty four years, retiring in 1988 as a Charge Attendant. He made his lifelong home in Lowell, formerly of the Back Central Street Area, and for over 30 years, made his home in Pawtucketville. He was a member of the former St. Peter’s Parish as well as the former Sacred Heart Parish.
John was a member of AARP as well as the Federation of Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees. He enjoyed sports, especially horse racing, he could often be found at Rockingham Park, and was looking forward to the upcoming Kentucky Derby.
In addition to Pauline, he is survived by his sister, Helen Demenie of Illinois; Pauline’s children, Donald Turcotte and his wife, Amy, of Lowell, David Turcotte and his wife, Tammy, of Lowell; Pauline’s Grandchildren, Zachary, Kayla, Matthew, and Justin Turcotte all of Lowell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews Wayne Medeiros and grand nieces and grand nephews, including Wayne Proulx and his wife, Laura, Daryl Proulx and his wife, Lucy, Steven Proulx and his wife, Katie, and Jonathan Medeiros; and a great grand niece and great grand nephews, Jacob, Honor, and Ian Proulx who were all very close to him.
He was also a brother of the late Mildred Medeiros, the late Lillian Sullivan, the late Margaret Milot, and the late Mary Vaughan and uncle of the late Honor Proulx.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON MONDAY, MAY 5. ON TUESDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 8 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
