Jean Marie Callahan
LOWELL Jean Marie (Crowley) Callahan, 84, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016, at Lowell General Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Joseph ‘Clifford’ Callahan who died in 1990.
A daughter of the late William and the late Elizabeth (Roark) Crowley, she was born December 4, 1931, in Lowell, and was educated in the local schools, graduating from Lowell High School, Class of 1950.
Jean made her lifelong home in the Highlands neighborhood of Lowell, and was a communicant of St. Margaret Parish as well as a member of the Blessed Virgin Sodality.
She was proud of her Irish heritage and passed down her knowledge of the family heritage to her children and grandchildren, whom she adored. She also enjoyed spending time with her large family as well as her many friends. She worked as an operator with New England Telephone for 12 years and later worked for Sears & Roebuck in Lowell for 10 years, before her retirement.
Her survivors include her children, William Callahan and his wife, Michelle, of Tyngsboro; her daughter, Kathleen Dowrey and her husband, Albert, of Chelmsford; her grandsons, Albert Dowrey IV of Boston, Todd Dowrey of Chelmsford, Joey Callahan of Tyngsboro, and Brett Callahan of Tyngsboro; her brother, John Crowley of Wilmington, DE; her sister in law, Helen Callahan of Lowell; and her many nieces, nephews, close friends, and neighbors.
She was also a sister of the late Elizabeth Bratkowsky, and sister in law of the late Stephen Callahan and Shirley Callahan, Leo Shaughnessy and Margaret Shaughnessy, John Callahan, Raymond Keene, Patricia Keene, Daniel Bratkowsky, Joyce Crowley, and Kitty Crowley.
Jean's family would like to thank the caring and attentive staff at D'Youville Life and Wellness Community in Lowell, especially the staff of "Sweetland Lane" for their compassion over the past few years.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS FROM 3 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON THURSDAY. ON FRIDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.

HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. MARY'S CHURCH, 25 NORTH ROAD, CHELMSFORD, MA, AT 10 A.M..
