James L. ‘Jimmy’ Long
LOWELL James L. ‘Jimmy’ Long, 70, of Lowell, died Thursday, February 13, 2014. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Greenwood) Long, with whom he would have celebrated their Forty Seventh Wedding Anniversary next month.
A son of the late James Long and the late Mary Jane (Marchand) Long, he was born May 25, 1943, in Laurel, Maryland. He was raised and educated in Lowell and was a Golden Glove and New England Silver Mitten Champion of 1960.
He made his home in South Lowell, and in addition to spending time with his family, was an avid pool player, loved golfing, and enjoyed being near water whether it be the ocean or the family pool with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He retired from Amtrack Railroad after a long career with them as a carman.
In addition to his wife, Mary Ann, he is survived by his children, James Long and his wife, Julie, of Dracut, Jeffrey Long and his wife, Tracie, of Wakefield, NH, and Jason Long and his wife, Jessica, of Nashua, NH; his grandchildren, Amy Long, Adam Long, Aaron Long, Lacey Long, Amber Brunelle, Jeffrey Long, and Tyler Marie Long; his great grandchildren, Caiden, Carissa, and Cameron; his brother, Robert Long of Lowell; his sisters, Joeann Magee and her husband, Michael, of Gardner, and Doreen Clark and her husband, Donald, of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and in laws.
He was also the grandfather of the late Jacob Long, and a brother of the late Donald Long.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS VISITATION ON FRIDAY, FEB. 21, FROM 10 A.M. UNTIL 1 P.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 1 P.M.
