Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother

LOWELL Giselda M. (Silva) Costa, 67, of Lowell, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus after a long illness with breast cancer. She was the loving wife of Manuel Costa for the past forty eight years.
A daughter of the late Manuel S. Silva and the late Rosa (Costa) Silva, she was born October 6, 1945, in Graciosa, and raised in that area. In 1978, she moved with her family of seven children to the United States, settling in the Back Central Area of Lowell, and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.
Giselda loved to cook especially family dinners on Sundays. She enjoyed making fried dough on special occasions for the family. She also loved to take care of her grandchildren, and also enjoyed gardening, knitting, fishing, and working around the house. Retiring last year, she had also worked at the Portuguese American Center, the ‘Blues Club’ for many years.
In addition to her husband, Manuel, she is survived by her ten children, Manny S. Costa and his significant other, Ornella Cerchione, of Methuen, Fatima S. Costa of Lowell, Maria L. Costa of New Bedford, Delminda M. Cartier and her husband, Daniel, of Goffstown, NH, John M. Costa and his wife, Danubia of Lowell, Maria J. Costa of Lowell, Sandra L. Schaffer and her husband, Steven, of Dracut, Sonia M. Costa of Lowell, Diana Costa and her significant other, Johneson Chou, of Lowell, and Kevin Costa and his significant other, Amie Silva, of Lowell; nineteen grandchildren, Michelle, Jonathan, Joey, Jessica, Krystal, Jacob, Tatiana, Adrianna, Jesileina, Damian, Marcello, Shawn, Isaac, Mikaela, Charlize, Erick, Chris, Nick, and Ethan; her brothers, Oliver Silva of Lowell, and Jaime Silva an his wife, Esolina, of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal; her sister, Maria Silva of Peabody; and many nieces and nephews.
