Georgina T. Silva
LOWELL Georgina T. (Mendonca) Silva, 82, of Lowell, died Monday, October 14, 2013, at Willow Manor Nursing Home after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of the late Joao B. Silva who died October 13, 2012.
A daughter of the late Jose and the late Rosa (Silva) Mendonca, she was born March 1, 1931, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and was educated in that area.
In January of 1970, she came to the United States to reunite with other members of her family who came to the United States before her. She settled in Lowell where she made her home for almost forty years. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. Her favorite pasttime was to travel with her late husband, and in the year since his death, she was able to visit Graciosa one final time with her son and daughter in law.
She had worked as a machine operator at Paris Shoe in Lowell for seven years before retiring. During her retirement, she was able to stay home and help to raise her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Manuel C. Silva and his wife, Iria, of Tewksbury and her daughter, Maria I Silva and her husband, Brivaldo, of Canada; four grandchildren, John Silva and his wife, Helena, of Canada, Nelson Silva and his wife, Kelly, of Canada, Christine Krusper and her husband, Steve, of Tewksbury and Kevin Silva and his wife, Amy, of Maine; seven great grandchildren, Sara and Stephany Krusper of Tewksbury, Benjamin and Maria Silva of Maine and Chloe, Mateo and Marlon Silva, all of Canada; her sister, Arcelinda Bettencourt of Toronto, Canada; her brothers, Reinaldo Mendonca and his wife, Almerinda, of Toronto, Canada, and Francisco Mendonca and his wife, Alda, of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal; her brother in law, Juventino Silva and his wife, Laurinda, of Lowell; her sisters in law, Maria Horta and her husband, Edelberto, of Lowell, Rosa Espinola and her husband, Manuel, of Lowell, Durvalina Silva of Lowell, and Maria Noemia Silva of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was also the sister of the late, Francisca, Clarimundo, Cidalia, Manuel, Terezinha, and Maria.
