George M. Ward Sr.
Known by all as ‘Papa’
LOWELL George M. Ward Sr., 69, a lifelong Lowell resident, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Saints Medical Center after a long illness. For over Fifty One years, he was the husband of Alice S. (Greenhalge) Eklund-Ward who died April 27, 2011.
Born December 25, 1941, in Lowell, he was a son of the late George W. and the late Elizabeth (Sheehan) Ward, and was educated in the Lowell Schools.
Mr. Ward made his lifelong home in Lowell, and was Union Plasterer. He later was the proprietor of Back Bay Roofing until illness forced his retirement.
Papa loved the beach and traveling to Florida and also loved music and to dance. He was a fan of all sports, especially boxing and especially enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas.
He is survived by his children, George ‘Micky’ Ward and his wife, Charlene, Donna L. Jaynes, Gail A. Carney, Richard A. Eklund, Phyllis A. Eklund, Cindy A. Cooper, Catherine A. Brady and her husband, John, Alice C. Kelley, and Sherri A. Fells all of Lowell; nineteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; his brothers, James S. Ward and his wife, Marianne, of Jacksonville, FL, Daniel T. Ward and his wife, Kathy, of Pelham, William Ward and his wife, Deborah, of Jacksonville, FL; his sisters, Mary Ward Gray of Newbury, and Sharon Ward Lane of Richamond, VA; his dear friend, Susan Dean of Billerica; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Gerald P. Ward of Sanderson, FL, and the late Elizabeth A. Ward Ducharme of Lowell, and was the father in law of the late Larry Carney.
