Gary D. ‘Wojo’ Wojcukiewicz

TEMPLETON, MA Gary D. ‘Wojo’ Wojcukiewicz, 49, of Templeton, MA, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 5, 2018.

     He was born in Lowell on February 16, 1968 and was a son of the late John K. Wojcukiewicz and the late Agnes Ann (Ryan) Wojcukiewicz.  He was raised in the Highlands Neighborhood of Lowell. He attended St. Margaret’s Parochial School and was a communicant of St. Margaret Church, where he served as an alter boy. He then continued on to graduate from Lowell High School with the Class of 1986. During his 4 years at Lowell High School, he was a football standout. He later graduated from Middlesex Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice.

He was a highly decorated Lieutenant with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, retiring in August of 2016 after 25 years of service. Over the years, he worked at MCI Cedar Junction Walpole, MCI Shirley, MCI Framingham, and Souza-Baranowski, where he retired. He previously received a special commendation from the State House for Heroism.

Wojo was the former Vice President and Co-Founder of the Chair City Lions and a longtime member of the Massachusetts Corrections Officers Federated Union (MCOFU). For the past 18 years, he has resided in Templeton. He was a devoted father and was highly enthusiastic and passionate about his children.

He is survived by his two children, Olivia A. Wojcukiewicz and Zachary J. Wojcukiewicz, both of Westminster, MA; and his siblings, Donna W. Garvey of Nashua, NH, Nancy Sparks Colombo and her husband, Michael of Newbury, MA, Ken Wojcukiewicz of Haverhill, MA.

He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Ryan Sparks of Newbury, MA, Paige Wojcukiewicz of Haverhill, MA,  Drew Garvey of Portsmouth, NH, Kaylee Chiarenza of Gardner, MA and Ryan Chiarenza of Gardner, MA; and his close friend, Dave McCann of Townsend.

          YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 11. ON FRIDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 11 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. MARGARET CHURCH, 374 STEVENS STREET, LOWELL, AT 12 NOON. BURIAL IN ST.
