Eugenia Adelaide Bettencourt
Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother

LOWELL Eugenia Adelaide (Lima) Bettencourt, 92, of Lowell, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, after a long illness with her family at her side at Radius Northwood. She was the widow of the late Manuel Bettencourt who died in 1972, and she was the last surviving member of her family in her generation.
Born October 26, 1918, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Jose Lima and the late Maria (Adelaide) Lima, and was educated in that area. She made her home there until 1968 when she came to the United States with her family, settling in Lowell’s Back Central Street Neighborhood. She was a homemaker and had worked in the local factories within the community before retiring.
Mrs. Bettencourt was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and a member of ‘Irmandade do Rosario’. Spending time with her family was her joy and was most important to her. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and cooking. Eugenia had such a loving and warm spirit and personality that everyone loved her. Even while at Northwood, the nurses and staff treated her with care and love. Eugenia was the guidance and support not only of her immediate family members, but also for nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She is survived by her daughters, Maria Grace Quadros and her husband, Celerino, of Tewksbury, and Ligia Lima and her husband, Gabriel, of Toronto, Canada; her son, Jose Joao Bettencourt and his wife, Maria, of Toronto, Canada; her five grandchildren, Odilia Tellinghuisen and her husband, Tom, Rosemary Silva and her husband, Nelio, Joseph Lima, Marcos Bettencourt and his wife, Elizabete, and Fabio Bettencourt; her four great grandchildren, Daniel, Bryan, Bella, and Matthew; and several nieces and nephews.
