A daughter of the late John H. and the late Ethel (McDonald) Gilmore, she was born October 23, 1932, in Lowell, and was educated in the Lowell Schools. She graduated from Lowell High School with the class of 1950, where she was a member of the girls shooting team. She also attended Lowell Commercial College.
In 1960, she married the love of her life, Herbert L. Schofield, and they made their home in Chelmford raising their family. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, and sang in the Church Choir since the age of twelve.
She worked for Merrimack Manufacturing Company, before working for Metropolitan Life Insurance, as well as Dupee Insurance. She then worked for Chelmsford High School as a Teacher’s Aide until 1980 when she began working for Wang Laboratories. She often studied genealogy from the United States and Canada. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, puzzles, and mysteries. She will be remembered by family and friends for her keen sense of humor, and sharp whit.
Ethel is survived by her sons, John H. Schofield and Mark C. Schofield both of Chelmsford; and her friends at the Church.
She was the sister of the late John H. Gilmore Jr. who passed away at a young age while serving with the United States Navy.
