Elmer William ‘Bill’ Carlson Jr.
LOWELL Elmer William ‘Bill’ Carlson Jr., 69, of Lowell, died Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Saints Medical Center. He was the husband of Lelia ‘Lee’ (St. Onge) Carlson.
Born October 29, 1941, in Erie, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Elmer W. and the late Dorothy E. (Drury) Carlson, and was raised and educated in San Francisco. At the age of eighteen, he joined the United States Army, serving with the A.S.A. during the Vietnam Era, serving for seven years, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his time in the service, he met his wife, Lelia, and on August 21, 1965, they married.
For the past forty two years, he has made his home in Lowell and was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. Bill was a first class HAM radio operator. His call letters were AI1E, and he enjoyed contacting people all over the World.
Bill was the Manager of Operations for manufacturing at Alpha Industries. More recently he worked for Delta Education in Nashua, New Hampshire.
In addition to his wife, Lee, he is survived by his children, Eric W. Carlson and his wife, Susan, of Derry, NH, Gene R. Carlson and his wife, Donnette, of Prairie du Chien, WI, Heather K. Nickola and her husband, Anthony, of Lowell, and Lawrence E. Carlson of Lowell; his grandchildren, Erik, Robert, Autumn, and Elizabeth Carlson, and Hannah and Jonathan Nickola; his sister, Zella Thibeault and her husband, Clay, of Las Vegas, NV; and several nephews.
