Carlos Alberto “Carlinhos” DaSilva

LOWELL Carlos Alberto “Carlinhos” DaSilva, 69, of Lowell, died after a long illness, on Tuesday, April 12 surrounded by his loving family at home.

Born August 19, 1946, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was a son of the late Fernando, and the late Maria (Sousa) DaSilva. He grew up in Sao Miguel, and helped his father make caskets as a boy. He came to the United States in October of 1970, and settled in the Back Central neighborhood with his parents and sister.

He enjoyed collecting pictures, and knick knacks, and also spending time at The Portuguese American Civic League, "The Reds Club. He was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony Church, and would always attend Mass on Sunday at 11:30. He loved listening to the Portuguese radio station, 91.5 FM on weekends and would frequently call in requests. He enjoyed the holidays, spending time with his family, especially long rides to Salisbury Beach.

He is survived by his four sisters, Maria and her husband Manuel Torres of Lowell, Fernanda Correia of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Liliana and her husband Jose Matias of Lisbon, Portugal, and Alda and her husband Valentino Pestana of Ocala, Florida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews throughout the United States, Canada and Portugal, including Marylou Torres of Lowell, Manny Torres Jr. and his fiance, Kelley Palmer, of Lowell, Stephanie Torres and her fiancé, Timothy Landry, of Lowell, Sandra Del Riego and her husband, Jorge, of Ocala, Florida, Valentino Pestana Jr. and his fiance, Tammy, of Hampton, NH, he is also survived by many grand nieces and grand nephews, including Jacob and Collin Landry, both of Lowell.

He was the brother of the late Virginia DaSilva, grand uncle of the late Jessica Marie Torres, brother in law of the late Joao Correia.

The family would like to thank Elder Services, Bring Home Care and Circle Home for all their compassionate care throughout the years.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON FRIDAY. ON SATURDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
