Eduino Fernando Borba


LOWELL     Eduino Fernando Borba, 77, of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of Maria Filomena (Cabral) Borba, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last January.


    A son of the late Fernando M. Borba and the late Palmira S. (Sao Joao) Borba, he was born on April 3,1941 in Sao Jorge, Portugal, and grew up in that area. He was the Captain of a tuna boat in the Azores and was in the Portuguese Army.


    In 1973, he came to the United States with his family, making his home in Lowell. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, a member of Santissima Trindade, and a member of the Portuguese American Civic League. Eduino worked in the Shoe Factories of Lawrence, the former Prince Macaroni in Lowell and for Joan Fabrics, retiring in 2003. Eduino enjoyed fishing with Jaime Cabral, Joe Faustino, and Joao Porto, watching Benfica and his role as "Papa" Borba with William S. Clouse. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and sons-in-law.


    In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by his children, Filomena Borba and her husband, Jorge Porto of South Boston, and Christina Borba and her husband, Franklin Thayer of Jamaica Plain; and his “grandchildren”, his daughter Christina’s cat, ‘Jameson Borba’, his daughter Filomena’s cat, ‘Sombra Borba’, and his most recent grand dog, 'Amora Porto’.


    He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Isalino Borba and his wife, Fatima of Lowell, Antonio Borba and his wife, Aurora of Hilmar, CA, Climaco Borba and his partner, Hermelinda Mendes, of San Jose, CA, Adelaide Paiva and her husband, Jose of Lowell, Heduina Silva and her husband, Manuel of Lowell, Fernanda Borba of Lowell, Orlando Borba and his wife, Nelia of Lowell, Fernando V. Borba and his wife, Lucia of Lowell; as well as many nieces and nephews.


    He was also a brother of the late Jose G. "J.B." Borba.

          ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 8 A.M. UNTIL 11 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.

HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED SATURDAY AT ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL STREET, LOWELL AT 12 NOON.

BURIAL IN LOWELL CEMETERY. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, DONATIONS IN HIS NAME MAY BE MADE TO: TUFTS MEDICAL CENTER, 800 WASHINGTON STREET, BOSTON, MA 02111.
