Bertha B. Branco

LOWELL Bertha B. (Borges) Branco, 88, of Lowell, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Palm Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness with her beloved family by her side. She was the widow of the late Walter M. Branco who died in 2001.

Born January 4, 1924, in St. Miguel, Azores, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Inacio Borges and the late Urania (Curvelho) Borges, and was raised and educated in that area. She came to the United States in 1950, settling in Lowell, where she made her lifelong home to raise her family. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and enjoyed time spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie Graham and her fiancee, David Piccolomini, of Lowell, and Pauline Branco of Lowell; her step children, Dolores M. Fawcett and her husband, David, of Lowell, Joseph F. Branco of Lowell, Beverly A. Carrozza and her husband, Gary, of Maryland, and Elaine P. Dempsey of Maryland; her grandchildren, Laurie Nystrom and her husband, Mark, of Littleton, Ryan Silva and Eric Silva both of Lowell; her first great granddaughter, Sophia Marie Nystrom, born three days before her passing; her brother, Armando Borges of Lisbon, Portugal; her sister, Urania Borges Melo of Portugal; and several nieces and nephews throughout Portugal and the New England Area.

She was also a sister of the late Antonio Borges and the late Humberto Borges.
