Augusta M. ‘Gussie’ (Barros) Daly
LOWELL Augusta M. ‘Gussie’ (Barros) Daly, 79, of Lowell, passed away after a brief illness, Tuesday, November 3, 2015. She was the wife of the late John F. Daly who passed away in 2014.
She was born on January 30, 1936, in Danbury, CT, and was a daughter of the late Manuel Barros and the late Maria (Andrade) Barros. She attended the area schools and graduated from Lowell High School with the class of 1954.
Gussie formerly lived in Ipswich and Nashua before relocating to Lowell for over 30 years. She was employed as an administrative secretary for Raytheon in Bedford for over 37 years before her retirement. Gussie was a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell and was a devoted communicant of Saint Michael Parish, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She was also involved with helping the St. Vincent DePaul Society for many years.
She enjoyed knitting, gardening, traveling, was an avid reader, and was a real movie buff. Although she had many passions throughout her life, spending time with her family brought her the most happiness.
Gussie is survived by her husband’s children, whom were like her own, John F. Daly and his wife, Tracey of Fremont, NH, Martin Daly and his companion, Annette Carrier of Pembroke, NH, Stephen Daly and his wife, Maureen of Lowell, and Michele (Daly) Bedell of Lowell; and her grandchildren, Brendan Daly, Christopher Daly, Morgan Daly, Brooke Daly, Katherine Daly, and Lauren Bedell. She is also survived by her sister in law, Shirley Barros of Londonderry, NH; brother in law, John Vaughan of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Maureen Girouard, of Plum Island.
Gussie was the wife of the late Robert McKeon who passed away in 1998; the sister of the late Lee Barros, the late Anthony Barros, and the late Francelina Vaughan; and sister in law of the late Patricia Barros.
