Arthur G. ‘Sonny’ Gauthier

DRACUT Arthur G. ‘Sonny’ Gauthier, 80, a lifelong Dracut resident, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017, peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side. He was the beloved spouse of Helen (Gomes) Gauthier, with whom he would have celebrated their Fifty Sixth Wedding Anniversary later this month on January 28.

He was born July 20,1936, in Lowell, and was educated in the Dracut School System, graduating from Dracut High School. From July 1959 to July 1961, he served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to make his lifelong home in Dracut. He was a communicant of St. Francis Church.

Mr. Gauthier worked as a purchaser for Raytheon Corp. in South Lowell for thirty nine years prior to his retirement in 1999.
Sonny was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Methuen, and was a league bowler since the 1960’s bowling at the former Stadium Lanes in Lawrence and Brunswick Lanes in Lowell.

Mr. Gauthier had a passion for antique and classic cars, his pride and joy was his 1963 Buick Riviera. In addition, as a young man, he enjoyed fishing, and had volunteered as a Coach for his sons’ baseball teams through out the years. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Helen, he is survived by his children, Carol Cyr of Pelham, NH, Joanne Cyr and her husband, Gary, of Dracut, Wayne Gauthier of Dracut, and Paula St. Louis and her husband, James, of Dracut. He is also survived by his grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as "Papa" or "Gramps" Stacy McGovern and her husband, Paul, of Pelham, NH, Derek Cyr and his wife, Lauryn, of Dracut, Jeremy Cyr of Dracut, and Emily St. Louis and Tyler St. Louis of Dracut.

He was also a nephew of the late Jerry Comtois and the late Laura Comtois, and a cousin of the late Raymond "Skippy" Gauthier and the late Martha Gauthier.

Sonny's family would like to thank all those involved with his care at home throughout his last days, especially Home Health VNA and Merrimack Valley Hospice.

YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS VISITATION FROM 10 A.M. UNTIL 12 P.M. ON MONDAY MORNING AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 12 P.M. AT THE FUNERAL HOME. BURIAL IN MASSACHUSETTS VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETERY IN WINCHENDON.
