LOWELL    Alice B. (Bello) Newell, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Lowell General Hospital after a long illness with her family by her side. She was the beloved widow of the late John R. "Jack" Newell, Sr., retired Captain with the Lowell Police Department, who passed away December 24, 2006.

A daughter of the late Antonio F. and the late Constance C. (Correia) Bello, she was born in Lowell, and educated in the local schools, graduating from Lowell High School.

Alice made her lifelong home in Lowell, residing in the City’s Pawtucketville Section for more than thirty years. Prior to her retirement, she was a group leader for Gillette in Andover for twenty five years.

She was the center of her large family and her family and friends always came first before herself. She cooked Sunday dinners every week up until her very last days, and especially loved time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed nightly dice games and card games with her friends at Mazur Park, and also enjoyed her Foxwoods trips as well.

She is survived by her children, John R. "Jack" Newell, Jr. of Lowell, Cheryl A. Tharpe and her husband, Richard, of Lowell, Cindy G. Newell and her partner, Steve Woodhouse, of Raymond, NH, and Sgt. Patrick T. Newell, serving with the U.S. Army reserves in Surprise, AZ; her eight grandchildren, John Newell III and his wife, Danielle, Matthew Newell, Julie Newell, Jesse Tharpe and his wife, Angela, Joseph Tharpe and his wife, Adriana, Rick Tharpe, Nicholas Grenier and Ty Newell; her five great grandchildren, Lydia, Eva, Brody, Thomas and Nicholas; her brother, Anthony Bello and his wife, Connie, of Lowell; her sisters, Delia Floyd of Pelham, NH, and Carol Dirocco and her husband, Norman, of Lowell, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her family of friends, especially those from Mazur Park and her special caretaker, Raymond Montbleau.

She was also a sister of the late Antoinette Bello, the late Bea Belleau, the late Constance O’Neill, and sister in law of the late Jim Floyd, the late Raymond Belleau and the late Lee O'Neill.

ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 23, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE FUNERAL HOME. HER FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 10 A.M. AT ST. MARY CEMETERY CHAPEL, FOLLOWED BY BURIAL.
